Kashira Dowridge is a Detroit-based director and photographer whose work explores the intersection of personal and collective identity within BIPOC communities. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining experimental narratives and documentary filmmaking, her projects delve into themes of healing, identity, and resilience. Kashira’s unique perspective is shaped by her background in fashion and self-taught filmmaking, blending vibrant color theory, layered visuals, and cultural narratives to create powerful, emotionally resonant stories.
Her recent work includes the film Time Will Tell, a meditation on self-discovery and authenticity, and installations like Drive-By at the SideWalk Festival, which create spaces for collective healing. Kashira’s collaborations with brands such as Apple, Target, Refinery29, Dazed magazine, and Free the Work showcase her ability to blend creativity with cultural significance.
In addition to her commercial work, Kashira is committed to fostering a creative community through workshops and artist talks, including with Bulk Space and The Waystation Podcast through Chrysalis Institute. She continues to push boundaries by exploring the role of contemporary art and non-fiction storytelling, using her craft to connect people and inspire a broader dialogue on the power of art in healing and social change.
